Smiling couple after dental crown treatment

Dental Crowns

A damaged or decayed tooth can make simple things like eating and speaking difficult.

A dental crown looks like a natural tooth, restoring oral function and appearance and preserving the tooth structure.

Drs. Edgar S. Pelayo and Nalleley L. Acosta in Los Algodones, Mexico, offer dental crowns for $300-$380 to help you smile with confidence.

Take a Look at How a Dental Crown and Dental Implant Can Fill in the Gap Caused by Missing Teeth

During a surgical procedure, an implant is placed in the jaw. An abutment is then attached, allowing your dentist to secure the dental crown. When a patient loses a tooth, the jaw no longer has the stimulation the tooth root once provided. The bone can then begin to deteriorate. Dental implants provide the jaw with the stimulation it needs to remain healthy and can prevent the need for more extensive dental work like bone grafting later.

What Is a  Dental Crown Made of?

/

Our Los Algodones dentistry practice offers zirconia crowns instead of porcelain crowns. This allows our dental lab to craft your crown in as little as one day instead of waiting days or weeks for a porcelain crown. This also allows patients to avoid temporary crowns. Like porcelain, zirconia is durable and shade-matched to blend with your natural teeth.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns offer several benefits for patients, including:

Restored Function

If you have a damaged or decayed tooth, speaking and eating can be difficult. A dental crown restores the tooth so you can eat and speak with confidence.

Improved Appearance

Dental crowns also offer cosmetic benefits. Not only does a dental crown restore your oral function, but it also restores the appearance of your smile by concealing issues like cracks and chips.

Better Oral Health

A decayed tooth can be painful and affect other teeth, causing further oral health concerns and the need for more extensive dental work. After your dentist treats the infection or decay, a dental crown is used to prevent further damage to the tooth.

Hear Why Patients Choose St Thomas Dental in Los Algodones

"St. Thomas dental was recommended to me by my snowbird neighbor a retired Washington state dentist. He informed me he had himself visited St. Thomas that Dr. Pelayo was highly qualified using the latest technology and equipment. I was very happy with my first visit in 2022 and didn't hesitate to see him again for a root canal in 2023. I have and will continue to recommend St. Thomas dental. I can think of only one other dental office over the years that compared with the care provided, so often it seems that your viewed more like an ATM machine than a patient these days. Not so at St. Thomas. I truly appreciate the work provided and how comfortable Dr. Pelayo and his staff made me feel. Thank you" Brian Simpson, 2023

Dental Crown Treatment Timeline

This timeline will vary based on your needs. However, typical treatment at our Los Algodones dental clinic will look something like this:

Consultation

Your dentist will examine your mouth and discuss your goals to determine if a dental crown is right for you.

Preparatory Treatment

If you need preparatory dental work like root canal therapy or implants, this must be done first.

Modify the Tooth

After numbing the area, your dentist will prep and reshape the tooth so the crown fits properly.

Impressions

Using digital technology, your dentist will take impressions of your mouth so we can craft your custom dental crown. This can typically be done on the same day.

Crown Placement

With our same-day service, there is no need for a temporary crown. Once your permanent crown is ready, your dentist will check the fit and appearance. Once we ensure you are completely satisfied, it can be bonded in place.

All that is left to do is enjoy your new smile. Have questions?

See How A Dental Crown Is Placed

After thoroughly numbing the area, your dentist removes a layer of enamel. This allows your crown to fit properly on the tooth.

Are there Alternatives to Dental Crowns?

Depending on your needs, a common alternative to a dental crown is veneers. Veneers are thin porcelain shells that fit over the front surface of a tooth to conceal minor cosmetic issues like cracks, chips, and stains. Because they are so thin, we do not recommend them for significant damage. Dental crowns provide a bit more protection to the whole tooth structure, which is why we often recommend crowns over veneers.
